What is a Portfolio?
A portfolio is a structured collection comprising labelled evidence and critical reflection on that evidence. A portfolio is produced as a part of a process of learning. It is presented to show evidence of that learning. (Baume, 2001)
Why should learners use an ePortfolio?
* to showcase their language learning including prior learning (documentation function)
* to enhance their reflection on, planning of and involvement in the learning process (pedagogical function)
* to make language learning portable, comparable and assessable across Europe and further afield.
ePortfolios are seen as one of the ways to document independent learning as they afford the opportunity to showcase the product as well as the process of language learning.
In this sub-section of the unit 'independent learning' you will be introduced to ePortfolios, learn how to evaluate and select an appropriate ePortfolio for your own learning & teaching situation and your particular group of learners. Finally, you will plan (and hopefully
implement your own ePortfolios and design your own tasks for a learner or teacher portfolio for your educational setting and group of learners.
